I've made ghetto kiwi mops, bingo dabber mops, stamp cleaner mops and some off brand shoe polish mops and I thought they worked great but this was the first mop I ever bought that was specifically made for writers and it puts all my ghetto mops to shame. Nice control over drips, makes clean lines if you want it to and holds a lot of ink but is small enough to fit in a pocket without bulging out. However, if you're looking to get one of these definitely get a bunch of nibs with it because if you use this half as much as I do you'll be going through them left and right
