Seattle, WA- Treason Gallery is proud to announce its October solo exhibit Red Bottoms featuring artist Angela China. The solo show will be China’s first exhibit on the West Coast. The opening reception will take place on October 1st, 6-8PM, during the First Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square.
China’s Red Bottoms will take its viewers through an in depth look into the pressures of women in modern society. China explores the idea of sexuality and implications on the beauty of women through the eyes of consumerism. Her unapologetic approach and provoc- ative delivery gives her viewers the ability to fully immerse themselves in the mind of this talented artist. Showcasing a number of her trademark legs and sexually explicit subject mat- ter, China brings to question a woman’s role in today’s society simultaneously touching on the softer subject of the beauty of the woman’s form.

China was born in Baltimore, MD. She is a self-taught fine artist working primarily with oil paint. She is also known as, “Gumshoe”, a New York based street artist perhaps best known for her thought provoking depictions of women, and in particular, women as seen through their relationship with shoes. Though recognized largely for her trademark, “Gumshoe” murals she shows a number of works in galleries throughout New York City. Whether working with pencil, paint, canvas or walls, China’s deliciously sarcastic take on traditional Americana art is a quixotic achievement of disturbing beauty. China has participated in a number of group shows as well as art fairs including Art Basel, Miami, the Shore Club Hotel and Select Art Fair in Chelsea, New York. She has also worked as a commercial artist displaying her talent throughout New York City. Some of her mural works include, Rochelle’s Bar, N.Y.C as well as, L’Occitaine in Vancouver, B.C.

While in Seattle, Angela China will be painting a “Gumshoe” mural on the exterior of The Crocodile Lounge on September 29th and 30th sponsored by Art Primo. On Friday, October 2nd Treason Gallery and Art Primo will be co-hosting a celebration of the mural completion at The Crocodile Lounge from 9pm-2am.Join us in celebration and have a chance to meet the artist.
