BASIC TUTORIALS: How to flare your K-71 nib
So I get an email from Chuy in Escondido. He tells me that his homie Johnny said that he needed to flair his nib to make it drip. Chuy didn't know what that meant, but he also didn't want to look like a toy in front of his boy. Knowing that we helped him before he emailed us for a little explanation. Well here you go homie, enjoy!



So first you need to pull the nib out and flip it to the round side. This will ensure a more consistent dot.



Then take a blade and gently slice at the top of the nib as you rotate the marker. cut to taste.



I prefer to flare it like this. Just enough to help it out. Some people like to flare it more, but that will be up to you. I like it this way because sometimes you can accidentally flare it too much and then you just have a busted nib. With this method your nib will break in naturally after a couple of quick writes.



Here is an example of the standard nib on a porous surface. Look at the bleeed!



Now with the flared nib. Its a bit wider, there is more ink flow (darker) and the drips...butter!
